Terry Thompson was not your typical animal hoarder, we've all heard of "cat women" or perhaps know somebody who has several rescue dogs, this was a wole lot scarier.
Terry of Zanesville, Ohio managed to build his own private zoo on his farm containing many exotic species, the Humane Society of the United States said Ohio is among several U.S. states that do little to regulate exotic animal ownership, so much so that police confirmed they had visited the farm more than 30 times since 2004 after complaints about loose or mistreated animals, and Thompson was charged several times with animal cruelty.
On October 18, 2011, Terry set 56 of his exotic animals free before shooting himself in the head. Thompson, 62, an exotic animal collector, set off a panic in the Zanesville area by freeing the animals before killing himself with a gun. An autopsy showed Thompson's head was bitten by one of the animals, likely a big cat, shortly after he committed suicide.
Of the 56 animals released by Thompson, 48 were killed by the local police - the animals confirmed dead included lions, tigers, leopards, wolves, primates, bears of which 18 tigers, 17 lions, six black bears, two grizzlies, two wolves, one macaque monkey, one baboon and three mountain lions.
